The station opened as Sagamihara Station in Kamitsuruma Nakahanda Shin'oka, Ōno Village, Kōza District, and became a stop for "Tokkyū" and express trains, while locals only operated between Shinjuku Station and Inada-Noborito Station, now known as Yukōen Station.
