Who runs it, where the data comes from, and how mistakes get fixed.

1. What this is

The Japanese Transit Wiki is a free guide to the railways of Greater Tokyo, in English and Japanese. It is for visitors, people who live here, and railway fans. Each station page shows the lines it is on, transfers and neighbouring stations and, where we have them, platforms, history, accessibility and departure melodies.

2. Where the data comes from

  • Association for Open Data of Public Transportation (ODPT): departures, line status, platform numbers, and the official order and numbering of stations on each line.
  • Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT): station opening dates, coordinates and operator records.
  • Japanese Wikipedia: station histories and departure melodies, collected by script. Not every entry has been checked by hand.

3. How it is checked

  • Station lists: the stations on each line, and their numbers, were checked against ODPT's official data in September 2026, and the mistakes found were fixed.
  • Contributions from readers: photos, corrections and history additions wait in a queue and appear on the site only after an administrator approves them.

4. Who runs it

The site is built and run by one developer at Javer Studios. It is not connected to JR, Tokyo Metro, Toei or any other railway company. It will have mistakes: if you find one, use Suggest an edit on the station or line page, and it will be reviewed. For anything time-critical, such as a service change, check the railway company's own website.
