History
The Nippon Railway (日本鉄道) opened the station on 25 December 1896 for passengers and freight. It was nationalized on 1 November 1906 and assigned to the Jōban Line on 12 October 1909. The Japanese National Railways was formed on 1 June 1949. An elevated station building was completed on 15 February 1978, the first elevated station in the Mito railway management area.
Luggage handling ended on 1 November 1978. Freight handling was limited to private sidings from 1 November 1986. East Japan Railway Company and Japan Freight Railway Company took over on 1 April 1987. An automatic ticket gate opened on 18 February 1995. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001.
Freight train service ended on 18 March 2006. The departure melody changed on 1 August 2009. Station work was outsourced on 10 April 2018. From 12 March 2022 limited expresses stopped all day, three trains down and two up, the same as Hitachino-Ushiku Station.
