History
In November 1968, when the Motoishikawa Ōba land readjustment association applied for approval, Tokyo Kyuko Electric Railway promised to build a new station. In December 1975, the land readjustment work was completed, and Tokyu decided to open this station and began construction. On 25 May 1977, the Tokyu station opened. At first, only local trains stopped here.
On 18 March 1993, the Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line was extended from Shin-Yokohama, and Azamino became a transfer station. From December 2000, elevators, a down escalator and passenger toilets were added to the Den-en-toshi Line platforms. From November 2001, the platform roof of the Den-en-toshi Line was lengthened to cover full-length trains. On 28 March 2002, the station became an express stop on the Den-en-toshi Line. From April to November 2004, the station building was improved and the station office was expanded. The staff dormitory was rebuilt, and a commercial facility opened in November 2004.
In 2006, the west rotary was improved. In late March 2006, intersection changes were completed, which moved the crosswalk and set times for pedestrian-only crossing. In late July 2006, separate lanes for general cars, taxis and buses were completed. In August 2006, a right-turn lane was added on the road running east to west past the station. In late July 2008, the west exit station-front canopy was expanded. In late May 2012, free public wireless LAN service from docomo Wi-Fi started.
On 18 July 2015, a Yokohama Municipal Subway timetable revision started a new rapid service, and the station became a stop for it. On 9 September 2018, platform doors started on the Den-en-toshi Line platforms. On 28 March 2019, a facility called Etomo Azamino opened. A future extension of the Yokohama Municipal Subway to Shin-Yurigaoka is planned, and this station would then become a middle station.
