Fuchinobe Station (淵野辺駅) is a station in Sagamihara city. East Japan Railway Company runs it. It serves the Yokohama Line. It opened on 23 September 1908 as a station of the Yokohama Railway (横浜鉄道).
History
The Yokohama Railway opened Fuchinobe Station on 23 September 1908, when its line from Higashi-Kanagawa to Hachioji opened. On 1 April 1910 the Railway Agency leased the line. On 1 October 1917 the line was nationalised, and the station became a station on the Railway Agency's Yokohama Line.
Freight handling ended on 1 October 1979. Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985. On 1 April 1987 the national railway was split up, and the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East). Automatic ticket gates started on 9 August 1994. Suica could be used from 18 November 2001.
The station building was renewed in stages from 17 January 2003. The north exit gained a pedestrian deck, escalators and elevators, and the left half of the south exit was extended with an escalator. In March 2010 the platform guide signs were replaced with a new energy-saving type. On 14 June 2014 the departure melody was changed to a melody from the Galaxy Express anime. Smart platform doors began to be used on 19 February 2021.
The Midori no Madoguchi counter closed on 10 January 2024. On 5 March 2024 a talking reserved-seat ticket machine was installed.
