Goi Station (五井駅) is a station in Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture. East Japan Railway Company and Kominato Railway both run it. It serves the Uchibō Line. It opened on 28 March 1912.
History
Goi Station opened on 28 March 1912. The Kominato Railway line opened on 7 March 1925.
Freight handling ended on 1 October 1974. A Midori no Madoguchi ticket counter opened on 16 April 1975. The elevated station building was completed on 26 August 1978. On 15 November 1982 the station became a stop for limited express trains. Parcel handling ended on 3 March 1986. On 1 April 1987 the national railway was split up, and the station became part of JR East.
Automatic ticket gates started on 17 December 1994. Two escalators were added between the platforms and the concourse in March 1999. Suica could be used from 18 November 2001. On 14 March 2009 a simple Suica gate was added at the transfer point between the JR line and the Kominato Railway line. The concourse toilets were renovated on 14 November 2011.
In 2014, for the art festival Ichihara Art Mix, a ticket office and a middle gate were set up on the JR side of the transfer stairs. On 1 October 2015 the overbridge on the Kimitsu side was closed because of its age. In November 2016 the Kominato Railway's Goi engine shed and smithy were recommended for registration as national registered tangible cultural properties. They were officially registered on 2 May 2017. The Midori no Madoguchi counter closed on 31 October 2022.
