Gotemba Station (御殿場駅) is in Gotemba, Shizuoka Prefecture. Central Japan Railway Company runs it, and Japan Freight Railway Company also has freight service here. It opened on 1 February 1889.
History
The station opened on 1 February 1889 as a government railway station when the line from Kōzu to Shizuoka opened. Double track from here to Numazu was completed on 12 January 1891, and the Oyama to Gotemba section on 1 March 1891. On 12 October 1909 the line through here was named the Tōkaidō Line. When the Atami to Numazu section opened on 1 December 1934, the Kōzu to Numazu section was renamed the Gotemba Line.
The Gotemba Line was made single track on 11 July 1943. The east-side station building opened on 22 July 1965. The Kōzu to Gotemba section was electrified on 27 April 1968, and the Gotemba to Numazu section on 1 July 1968.
Wagon freight handling ended on 15 November 1982. Parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. A Midori no Madoguchi counter opened on 1 March 1987, and the new station building opened on 21 March 1987. On 1 April 1987 JR Central and JR Freight took over the station.
Elevators were added on 13 March 2001. The JR Freight station closed on 1 April 2006, ending freight. Only a few large freight trains carrying transformers had used it. TOICA became usable toward Numazu on 13 March 2010. On 30 September 2010 a steam locomotive, which had been displayed in a city park, was moved to in front of the station. The Asagiri limited express began running to here on 17 March 2012. TOICA became usable toward Shimo-Soga on 2 March 2019.
