Hatori Station (羽鳥駅) is a station in Omitama city, Ibaraki Prefecture. East Japan Railway Company runs it. It has a station building over the tracks. It opened on 1 December 1895 as a station of the Nippon Railway (日本鉄道).
History
Nippon Railway (日本鉄道) opened Hatori Station on 1 December 1895. On 1 November 1906 the railway was nationalised and became part of the government railways. On 12 October 1909 the new line-name rules placed the station on the Jōban Line. The Japanese National Railways (JNR) was formed on 1 June 1949.
Freight handling ended on 1 October 1971. Parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. On 1 April 1987 the JNR was split up, and the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East).
Suica could be used from 18 November 2001. On 2 March 2005 the Midori no Madoguchi ticket counter closed. On 3 March 2005 a ticket machine called Kaeru-kun and automatic ticket gates were installed. On 26 April 2005 a Super Hitachi limited express bound for Iwaki hit a truck that had stalled on a nearby level crossing, and it derailed. The Kaeru-kun machine service ended on 21 February 2012. A reserved-seat ticket machine was installed on 10 February 2015.
On 19 September 2017 work began to rebuild the station building. The aim was an elevated station building and an east-west free passage. Part of the free passage opened on 14 June 2019, and part of the elevated station building opened on 15 June 2019. From 1 July 2019 JR East Station Service took over station duties, so the station became a contracted-out station. The west exit stairs opened on 16 January 2020. The west toilets and elevator opened on 10 February 2020. On 16 February 2020 the east-west passage and the elevated station building fully opened.
