Honjo Station (本庄駅) is in Honjō, Saitama. East Japan Railway Company runs it on the Takasaki Line. It opened on 21 October 1883 as a station of the Nippon Railway (日本鉄道).
History
Honjo Station opened on 21 October 1883 as a station of the Nippon Railway (日本鉄道). The railway was then building its line from Ueno toward Maebashi. It was acquired and nationalised on 1 November 1906. On 12 October 1909, when track names were set, it became a station on the Takasaki Line.
On 20 September 1915 the Honjo Electric Railway (本庄電気軌道) opened and ran into the front of Honjo Station. The whole Honjo Electric Railway was suspended on 1 June 1930 and abolished on 1 May 1933.
On 1 April 1962 the footbridge over the tracks was rebuilt. Freight handling ended on 21 August 1980. Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985. On 1 April 1987 the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East), after the national railways were divided and privatised.
Automatic ticket gates opened on 12 December 1995. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. Early mornings became unstaffed on 10 March 2016. On 28 November 2025 a reserved-seat ticket machine called 'talking' (話せる指定席券売機) was introduced.
