Jūō Station (十王駅) is a ground-level station in Hitachi, Ibaraki, run by East Japan Railway Company. It opened on 25 February 1897 as Kawajiri Station (川尻駅).
History
The Nippon Railway opened the station as Kawajiri Station on 25 February 1897. It was nationalized on 1 November 1906 and assigned to the Jōban Line on 12 October 1909. The Japanese National Railways took over on 1 June 1949. Freight handling ended on 15 April 1976, and luggage handling ended on 1 February 1984. On 1 April 1987 East Japan Railway Company took over the station.
A Midori no Madoguchi ticket office opened on 20 December 1992. The departure melody for the down platform changed in September 2001. The station was renamed Jūō Station on 13 March 2004. Regular limited express stops began on 16 October 2004. The station building was rebuilt on 18 December 2004, with a free passage and an island platform. Renovation works finished in August 2005, and the departure melody changed again on 1 November 2005.
The Midori ticket office closed on 17 March 2006 and a Moshimoshi ticket machine Kaeru-kun was installed. Suica became usable on 15 March 2008, when the Tokyo commuter area was extended. The Kaeru-kun machine ended on 7 February 2012, and a reserved-seat ticket machine started on 8 February 2012.
