History
Kanazawa-Hakkei Station (金沢八景駅) opened on 1 April 1930 as a stop of the Shonan Electric Railway (湘南電気鉄道), now the Keikyu Main Line and Zushi Line. On 1 November 1941, the Shonan Electric Railway merged with the Keihin Electric Railway (京浜電気鉄道), and the station became a Keihin station. On 1 May 1942, the Keihin Electric Railway merged into the Tokyo Yokohama Electric Railway, and the station became part of Tokyu (大東急). On 1 June 1948, Keikyu was formed, and the station became a Keikyu station.
In 1986, the city plan and the business plan were decided. In May 1987, a land readjustment council was set up for the east side of the station. On 5 July 1989, the station of the Yokohama New Urban Transit (now the Yokohama Seaside Line) opened. In November 1995, a town-building council for Kanazawa-Hakkei was set up. On 31 July 1999, a complete timetable revision on the Keikyu Line ended the express trains between Keikyu Kamata and Shin-Zushi (then). In October 1999, the local group My Town Kanazawa-Hakkei was set up. In November 2002, the town-building council and My Town Kanazawa-Hakkei merged into one council.
In March 2006, the city plan was changed. In March 2007, the project plan was changed, and the bus terminal was moved closer to the Keikyu station building than first planned. On 22 December 2008, an approach melody called Michi (道) was adopted for the Keikyu platforms. On 16 May 2010, a timetable change made the station a stop for the Kaitoku express, the Keikyu Wing and the new Airport Express. In September 2010, land use zones were changed and a district plan was decided. In June 2016, construction started to extend the Kanazawa Seaside Line.
On 26 January 2019, the ticket gate of the new elevated station building opened. In March 2019, the redevelopment around the station was completed. On 26 March 2019, the station plaza opened. On 31 March 2019, the Seaside Line moved from its temporary station building to the main station building, and its new platform opened. On 28 February 2020, a shopping area inside the station, Wing Kitchen Kanazawa-Hakkei, opened. In February 2021, the whole extension of the Kanazawa Seaside Line opened.
On 14 February 2021, the Seaside Line's first platform opened. On 19 June 2021, an elevator linking the elevated ticket gate and the platforms opened, and the ground-level ticket gate closed. In 2024, platform doors were added at the Keikyu platforms. The first platform's doors came into use on 17 February, and the second platform's on 23 February. The third platform's doors came into use on 13 April, and the fourth platform's on 20 April. On 20 April, the first and second platform doors began to operate. On 22 June 2024, the third and fourth platform doors began to operate.
