Keiō Hachiōji Station (京王八王子駅) is an underground station in Hachiōji, Tokyo. Keio runs it. It opened on 24 March 1925 as Higashi-Hachiōji Station (東八王子駅).
History
Keiō Hachiōji Station began on 24 March 1925 as Higashi-Hachiōji Station (東八王子駅) of the Tamanan Electric Railway. It was set up in Myōjin-chō, along the Kōshū Kaidō. On 1 December 1926, it became a station of the Keio Electric Railway after a merger. On 31 May 1944, a wartime merger made it a station of Tokyu (Dai-Tokyu). On 2 August 1945, the station was burned in the Hachiōji air raid. On 1 June 1948, Keio separated from Tokyu and the station became a station of Keio Teito Electric Railway.
On 11 December 1963, under Hachiōji's city plan, the station moved a short distance toward Kitano and was renamed Keiō Hachiōji Station. On 3 June 1970, the section between Kitano and here was double-tracked, which completed double-tracking of the whole Keio Line.
On 2 April 1989, the station went underground, and express trains with longer cars could run on the whole Keio Line. On 20 December 1989, the Keio Hachiōji Expressway Bus Terminal opened in front of the station. On 17 September 1991, the Keio Hachiōji bus terminal for route buses was completed.
On 25 March 1992, after plans to run through to JR Hachiōji station were given up, the Keio Teito Bus Hachiōji depot, which had been on land north of Hachiōji Station, was moved. On 9 September 1994, Keio Plaza Hotel Hachiōji opened on station land reserved north of Hachiōji Station. On 15 September 1994, a new station building opened, later the Keio Hachiōji Shopping Centre. On 27 March 1999, the station building was renewed and renamed Keio Hachiōji Shopping Centre. In summer 2005, the departure board changed from flip type to LED. On 1 April 2007, the Keio Hachiōji expressway bus terminal was abolished.
On 16 November 2011, songs by FUNKY MONKEY BABYS, Hero and Ato Hitotsu, began to be used as approach melodies. On 22 February 2018, a timetable revision created a new Keio Liner, and this station became the terminus for down trains. On 22 February 2019, a timetable revision created an up Keio Liner starting here. On 11 March 2022, rapid trains stopping and terminating here were suspended. On 15 April 2022, the commuter pass counter closed. On 31 March 2024, the Keio Hachiōji Shopping Centre fully closed.
