Maya Station (摩耶駅) is a ground-level station in Nada ward, Kobe. West Japan Railway Company (JR West) runs it. It opened on 26 March 2016 on the site of the former Higashi-Nada signal yard.
History
The Nada signal station of the government railway opened on 1 February 1904. On 20 August 1907 it was renamed the Nada liaison office, when a freight branch line to Kobe Port Station opened. On 1 October 1910 it opened as Nada Station, a freight station. On 1 December 1917 it was renamed Higashi-Nada Station, when the present Nada Station opened.
On 1 October 1972 freight handling ended, and the site was downgraded to the Higashi-Nada marshalling yard. On 1 April 1981 the site was reduced in size and downgraded to the Higashi-Nada signal yard. On 1 April 1987 the national railway was split up, and the signal yard became a JR West signal yard.
On 1 December 2003 the freight branch line to Kobe Port Station, the Kobe Rinkō Line, closed. On 7 August 2004 removal of the old track on that line was completed. On 26 November 2005 removal of the holding tracks and passing tracks was completed. On 7 October 2010 JR West decided on a plan for a new station. On 14 December 2010 JR West formally announced the new station, which had the temporary name Maya Station. On 2 May 2013 construction work began on the station.
On 2 October 2015 JR West chose Maya Station (摩耶駅) as the official name. On 11 December 2015 scaffolding collapsed at the construction site and fell onto the tracks, causing an accident. On 26 March 2016 Maya Station opened, upgraded from the Higashi-Nada signal yard. On 17 March 2018 station numbering was introduced.
