Mishima-Hirokōji Station (三島広小路駅) is a ground station in Mishima, Shizuoka Prefecture. The Izuhakone Railway runs it. It has one platform with one track. Its listed opening date is 18 April 1928, the day it was named Mishima-Hirokōji.
History
On 20 May 1898, the Zusō Railway (豆相鉄道) extended its line from Mishima-machi (now Mishima-Tawa) to Mishima (now Shimo-Kari). No station stood on this spot yet. On 1 October 1906, the Sunzu Electric Railway (駿豆電気鉄道) opened a line from in front of Numazu Station (沼津停車場前) to Mishima Rokutanda. On 19 July 1907, the Zusō Railway was handed over to the Izu Railway (伊豆鉄道). On 3 August 1908, the Sunzu Electric Railway opened the section from Mishima Rokutanda to Mishima-machi. Its Numazu line was split from it by an Izu Railway level crossing, and the two had separate boarding places. On 1 October 1908, trams were allowed to run directly from Mishima-machi to Numazu. On 1 April 1912, the Sunzu Electric Railway bought the Izu Railway.
In late 1914, the tram section between Mishima Rokutanda and Mishima-machi was suspended. A railway liaison office opened here in 1914. On 18 January 1915, the tram section was abolished. On 5 October 1916, the Sunzu Electric Railway merged with the Fuji Hydroelectric company (富士水力電気). On 5 November 1917, Fuji Hydroelectric's railway and tram business was handed over to the Sunzu Railway (駿豆鉄道). On 25 May 1919, the railway section between Mishima and Mishima-machi was electrified, and trams ran through to Mishima-machi. On 18 April 1928, the liaison office was renamed Mishima Hirokōji. On 1 December 1934, the old Mishima station's section to Mishima Hirokōji closed, and a new section from the new Mishima station to Mishima Hirokōji opened.
On 6 April 1938, the Sunzu Railway renamed itself Sunzu Railway Hakone Yusen (駿豆鉄道箱根遊船). On 28 November 1940, it changed back to the Sunzu Railway. On 1 April 1949, through running of trams to Mishima-machi ended. On 1 June 1957, the company was renamed Izuhakone Railway (伊豆箱根鉄道). On 7 September 1959, the line's overhead wire voltage was raised. The tram depot moved to Nagasawa, and tram trains no longer ran onto the railway line.
On 5 February 1963, the tram lines were all abolished. On 1 October 1972, handling of hand baggage ended. On 25 January 2002, automatic ticket gates began operating.
In 2020, the station was renovated. The taxi stand garage was demolished and rebuilt as a convenience store, and the platform was renovated at the same time. On 23 May 2023, the company announced a sponsorship deal with Toshiba Tec for a sub-station name, ともにつくる、つぎをつくる。 (roughly, Build Together, Build the Next). The unveiling was held at Ōhito Station (大仁駅), which carries the same sub-name.
