Nishi-Kunitachi Station (西国立駅) is a ground-level station in Tachikawa, Tokyo, on the Nambu Line, run by East Japan Railway Company. It opened on 11 December 1929 as a Nambu Railway station.
History
The Nambu Railway opened the station on 11 December 1929, when its line between Bungaigahara and Tachikawa opened. It was nationalized on 1 April 1944 and became a Nambu Line station under the Ministry of Transport and Communications. In May 1944 the Tachikawa locomotive depot opened on land next to the station.
Freight handling started on 1 March 1951. Luggage handling ended on 10 April 1958. Freight handling ended on 1 April 1963. The Tachikawa depot closed on 1 July 1984.
East Japan Railway Company took over on 1 April 1987. Automatic ticket gates were installed on 1 March 1994. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 28 February 2010.
Rapid trains began running the whole Nambu Line on 14 March 2015, and the station became one that rapid trains pass through. Smart platform doors came into use on the down platform toward Tachikawa on 12 November 2024, and on the up platform toward Kawasaki on 10 February 2025.
