Noda-shi Station (野田市駅) is an elevated station in Noda, Chiba Prefecture. Tobu Railway runs it on the Tobu Urban Park Line. It opened on 9 May 1911 as Nodamachi Station (野田町駅).
History
The station opened on 9 May 1911 as Nodamachi Station (野田町駅), when the Chiba Prefectural Railway's Noda Line opened. On 18 June 1913 the Noda Jinsha Railway (野田人車鉄道), a human-powered line, was extended to the station. On 1 August 1923 the Chiba prefectural railway was transferred to the Hokuso Railway. That company is not related to today's Hokuso Railway. On 1 September 1925 the Noda Jinsha Railway closed. On 1 September 1929 the Noda Line was extended from here to Shimizu-kōen (清水公園駅), and passenger services moved to the present site. The old station became a freight station, and its building was reused at Kawama Station (川間駅).
On 22 November 1929 the Hokuso Railway was renamed the Sōbu Railway (総武鉄道). Its head office was in this station building during the Sōbu era. On 1 March 1944 the Sōbu Railway was merged into Tobu Railway under the wartime transport law, and the station became a station on the Tobu Noda Line. On 3 May 1950 Nodamachi and several neighbouring towns and villages merged into a city, and the station was renamed Noda-shi Station.
On 1 March 1985 the old freight station closed. In 2008 work began to raise the line onto an elevated structure. On 30 September 2012 the commuter pass and ticket book counter closed. On 27 September 2014 the tracks on the Umezato side were moved to a temporary line on the east side. On 28 September 2014 the single platform used for up trains closed, and the station began running from one island platform.
On 19 January 2018 a temporary station building opened. On 28 March 2021 the station became an elevated station, still using one island platform. On 11 February 2024 the departure melody was changed to 'The Day', composed by Naoto Inti Raymi (ナオト・インティライミ), a singer-songwriter from Noda. On 3 March 2024 a new station building and new platforms opened, and the temporary building closed. The continuous grade-separation project is planned to be completed on 21 December 2026.
