History

Keio opened Tama Center Station (京王多摩センター駅) on 18 October 1974, when its Sagamihara Line was extended here. Odakyu followed on 23 April 1975, when the Odakyu Tama Line was extended. The Tama Monorail opened its Tama Center Station (多摩センター駅) on 10 January 2000.

Express services were added over the years. Keio began limited express trains on 28 May 1992. On 2 December 2000, Odakyu began the Romancecar Homeway and an express service. On 25 March 2001, Keio began express services on the Sagamihara Line. Its limited express trains were dropped at the same time, but they came back later. On 23 March 2002, Odakyu began its Tama Express. On 11 December 2004, it began section semi-express trains. On 15 March 2008, the Metro Homeway Romancecar began.

Odakyu renovated the station in March 2006. Keio's limited express trains returned on 22 February 2013. On 15 March 2014, Odakyu began semi-express trains, with only one weekday morning down train. On 25 September 2015, Keio began semi-limited express trains. On 26 March 2016, Odakyu dropped its section semi-express and Romancecar services. On 22 February 2018, Keio began its Keio Liner. On 17 March 2018, Odakyu began commuter express and rapid express services, and it dropped its semi-express and its through trains to the Chiyoda Line.

Keio named Hello Kitty as honorary station master of Tama Center on 12 March 2016. The station interior was redesigned in dark blue, gold and wine red that month. Odakyu decorated its station with Sanrio characters on 6 December 2018. On 15 March 2025, Odakyu Tama Line trains began stopping here again on through services to the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line.
