Sagamiko Station (相模湖駅) is in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture. East Japan Railway Company (JR East) runs it. It opened on 1 August 1901 as Yose Station.
History
The station opened on 1 August 1901 as Yose Station (与瀬駅) when the government railway, later the Japanese National Railways, opened the Chūō Line between Hachiōji and Uenohara. It handled passengers and freight. On 17 July 1947 Emperor Shōwa visited Sagami Dam on his postwar tour, and a special electric train arrived and departed from the station. On 10 April 1956 the station was renamed Sagamiko Station.
Freight and delivery handling ended on 11 November 1962. On 30 August 1964 the station building was rebuilt, and one platform came into use, as the line was not yet double track. In late September 1964 the double-tracking gave the station two platform faces. Parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. On 1 November 1986 the Chūō Line rapid service was extended from Takao to Ōtsuki and began stopping here, so passengers could ride through to Tokyo without changing.
On 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR East. Automatic ticket gates came into use on 14 February 1997. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. On 14 March 2006 the Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed, and a Moshi-Moshi ticket machine called Kaeru-kun was installed. The Kaeru-kun machine stopped operating on 8 February 2012.
On 17 September 2013 a train derailed inside the station. Takao to Ōtsuki services were suspended for several hours. In January 2017 the station building was given a new exterior, and in March 2017 the waiting room and toilets on the upbound platform were renewed. On 1 April 2019 station operations were contracted out.
