Sanuki Station (佐貫駅) is in Ryugasaki, Ibaraki Prefecture, and was opened on 14 August 1900. The JR East station here was later renamed Ryugasaki-shi Station, and it is run alongside a separate Kantō Railway station.
History
Sanuki Station opened on 14 August 1900 at the same time on two lines: the Nihon Railway Tsuchiura Line and the Ryugasaki Railway. The Nihon Railway was nationalized on 1 November 1906, and the station came under the government railway. The station joined the Joban Line on 12 October 1909.
The Ryugasaki Railway handed its train business to Kashima Sangu Railway on 13 May 1944. The Japanese National Railways was formed on 1 June 1949. On 1 June 1965, Kashima Sangu Railway and Jōsō Tsukuba Railway merged to form Kantō Railway.
Freight and parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. The national railway began building a raised station on 7 July 1984. It opened on 10 March 1985, and the Kantō Railway kept a separate station building. JR East took over on 1 April 1987. Automatic ticket gates opened on 25 February 1995. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001.
Kantō Railway rebuilt its station building on 10 January 2009. PASMO became usable on Kantō Railway on 14 March 2009. In May 2012, Kantō Railway stopped having staff at the station at some times of day. JR East changed the station's departure melody on 3 June 2017. On 14 March 2020, JR East renamed the station Ryugasaki-shi Station. On 16 September 2021, the Kantō Railway station became unstaffed all day.
