The station opened as Irumagawa Station, named after the then-current municipality of Irumagawa Town, and was originally a station on the Kawagoe Railway, making it one of the oldest stations on the Seibu Railway, after Kokubunji Station, Ogawa Station, and Higashi-Murayama Station.
