Shinohara Station (篠原駅) is in Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture, and is run by West Japan Railway Company. It opened on 20 April 1921.
History
The site began as the Shinohara signal station of the national railway on 1 June 1918. On 20 April 1921 the signal station was upgraded to a station, which handled passengers and freight. Freight handling ended on 1 February 1962. Parcel handling ended on 15 March 1972.
On 1 April 1987, the station became a JR West station. The Biwako Line nickname came into use on 13 March 1988. Automatic ticket gates opened on 11 March 1998. ICOCA became usable on 1 November 2003.
On 1 October 2006, the JR Kyoto and Kobe Line operations management system was introduced. The station announcements were renewed on 18 March 2007. An approach melody was added on 12 March 2015, when the entry warning sound was reviewed. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 18 September 2015. On 19 September 2015, from the first train of the day, the raised station and free passage opened, a south exit was added, and the Midori Ticket Machine Plus was introduced. The south station square opened on 1 April 2016, and the north square was renovated. Station numbering was introduced on 17 March 2018.
