Shin-Tokorozawa Station (新所沢駅) is a station in Midori-chō, Tokorozawa, Saitama. Seibu Railway runs it. It opened on 11 June 1951.
History
The station began on 21 June 1938 as Tokorozawa Airfield-mae Station (所沢飛行場前駅). It was renamed Tokorozawa Miyukichō Station (所沢御幸町駅) on 1 December 1940. On 11 June 1951 the station moved about 1.4 km north and opened as Kita-Tokorozawa Station (北所沢駅), close to its present site. The move was made to carry military supplies by freight to a US base. The station was renamed Shin-Tokorozawa on 1 February 1959.
In June 1960 a fountain with a goddess statue was completed at the west exit roundabout. In 1962 a station building over the tracks was completed. It was the first such building for Seibu Railway.
Double tracks opened between Tokorozawa and this station on 27 October 1967. Double tracks opened between this station and Irisō (入曽) on 26 September 1969. Rebuilding of the station building and platforms began in May 1994. In December 1996 the platforms were expanded from one face with two lines to two faces with four lines. Trains could now overtake and wait at this station.
On 26 March 1998 Kaisoku Kyūkō (rapid express) trains began, and they stop here. On 6 November 2000 the level crossing on the Kōkū-kōen side was replaced by an overpass, opened as the Shin-Tokorozawa overpass. From 12 March 2003 some trains started at this station and ran through to Kokubunji on the Kokubunji Line. In September 2005 a waiting room was added to the down platform. In May 2008 the station name signs were renewed.
