Takahama Station (高浜駅) is a ground-level station in Ishioka, Ibaraki Prefecture. East Japan Railway Company runs it. It opened on 4 November 1895 as a station of the Nippon Railway (日本鉄道).
History
Nippon Railway opened Takahama Station on 4 November 1895. On 1 November 1906 the railway was nationalised and became part of the government railways. On 12 October 1909 the station was placed on the Jōban Line. In 1913 a railway was planned from this station to Kakioka town in Shinji County. Construction began later, but the company behind the plan went bankrupt, and the plan was dropped.
The Japanese National Railways (JNR) was formed on 1 June 1949. On 25 July 1949 an express train and a freight train collided inside the station yard. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1971. Parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. On 1 April 1987 the JNR was split up, and the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East).
The Midori no Madoguchi counter closed on 28 February 2001. On 1 March 2001 a Kaeru-kun ticket machine and automatic ticket gates were installed. Suica could be used from 18 November 2001. The Kaeru-kun ticket machine service ended on 14 February 2012. A reserved-seat ticket machine was installed on 10 February 2015. On 1 April 2018 station duties were contracted out.
