History
Takahatafudo Station (高幡不動駅) opened on 24 March 1925 as Takahata Station (高幡駅), when the Tamanan Electric Railway (now the Keio Line) opened. It was a short distance west of the current site. On 1 December 1926, a merger made it a station of the Keio Electric Railway (京王電気軌道). On 1 May 1937, it was renamed Takahatafudo Station. On 31 May 1944, a wartime merger made it a station of Tokyo Kyuko (大東急). On 1 June 1948, it was separated and became a station of the Keio Teito Electric Railway (now Keio).
On 21 January 1957, four-car express and semi-express trains began running from Shinjuku to this station, on weekday rush hours only. On 29 April 1964, the Tama Zoo Line (now the Zoo Line) opened from here to Tama Zoo, and the station moved to its current site. On 10 January 2000, the Tama Monorail station opened with the Tachikawa-Kita to Tama Center section. On 27 March 2001, a semi-express stop was set up. Express trains coupling and uncoupling here for the Tama Zoo and Takaosanguchi services ended.
In March 2004, the station's renovation began in phases. The first phase, rebuilding a commercial building, started in March 2004. The second phase, covering the station building and the elevated concourse, started in August 2004. On 7 December 2004, the Keio Takahata shopping centre opened, and the first phase was completed. On 11 June 2006, the elevated station building and north-south free passage opened early. On 1 September 2006, the season timetable ended, and express coupling and uncoupling for the Keio Hachioji and Takaosanguchi services stopped. On 25 March 2007, the second phase was completed, with the elevated station building and shopping centre. The Keio station, the monorail station and the shopping centre were linked directly.
On 22 February 2013, station numbering was introduced on the Keio Line. On 22 February 2018, down Keio Liner trains began stopping here. From Fuchu, these trains did not need reserved seat tickets. On 11 October 2018, the train approach melody was changed to songs about animals. On 22 February 2019, up Keio Liner trains began stopping here. Up trains need reserved seat tickets, while down trains still do not.
