Uchihara Station (内原駅) is in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, and is run by East Japan Railway Company and Japan Freight Railway Company. It opened on 16 January 1889 as a station of the first Mito Railway.
History
The station opened on 16 January 1889 for the first Mito Railway. On 1 March 1892 the Mito Railway transferred its business to the Nippon Railway. The Nippon Railway was nationalized on 1 November 1906. On 12 October 1909 the station joined the Jōban Line.
The Japanese National Railways was formed on 1 June 1949. Parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. On 1 April 1987 JR East and JR Freight took over the station. A Midori no Madoguchi ticket office opened on 20 December 1992.
Freight train services ended on 11 March 2000. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 7 March 2001. On 8 March 2001 a Moshi-moshi Kaeru-kun ticket machine was installed, and Suica-ready automatic gates were added. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. The Kaeru-kun machine closed on 23 February 2012.
From 1 April 2013 station duties were outsourced to JR Mito Railway Service. The north plaza opened for use on 2 April 2013. A reserved-seat ticket machine was installed on 10 February 2015. From 1 July 2015 station duties moved to JR East Station Service.
Work on the north-south passage and the raised station began in September 2020. Both opened on 26 November 2022. The north side passage opened on 1 April 2025.
