Warabi Station (蕨駅) is in Warabi, Saitama. East Japan Railway Company runs it on the Keihin–Tōhoku Line. It opened on 16 July 1893 as a station of the Nippon Railway (日本鉄道).
History
Warabi Station opened on 16 July 1893 as a station of the Nippon Railway (日本鉄道). It was nationalised under the Railway Nationalisation Act (鉄道国有法) on 1 November 1906. On 12 October 1909, when track names were set, it became part of the Tohoku Main Line (東北本線).
In 1933 the station building was rebuilt, and a footbridge connected the west exit with the platforms. The east exit opened on 15 September 1949. The station building was rebuilt again on 17 October 1967, and that is the current building.
Freight handling ended on 1 February 1984. Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985. On 1 April 1987 the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East), after the national railways were divided and privatised. Automatic ticket gates started use on 3 June 1992. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. In mid-March 2006 new automatic ticket gates were introduced.
Smart home doors (スマートホームドア) started use on 29 February 2020. Station operations were outsourced on 1 February 2021. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket counter closed on 31 August 2022.
