Yokaichiba Station (八日市場駅) is a ground-level station in Sōsa, Chiba, on the Sōbu Main Line, run by East Japan Railway Company. It opened on 1 June 1897.
History
The Sōbu Railway opened the station on 1 June 1897. The Imperial Railways Agency took it over on 1 September 1907 when the railway was bought. On 5 December 1926 the Tako Line opened from here. It was run by the Chiba Prefectural Railway, later the Narita Railway (成田鉄道). The Tako Line was suspended as a non-essential line on 11 January 1944 and later abolished.
Freight handling ended on 1 October 1974. On 1 April 1987 the station passed to East Japan Railway Company. In 1989 the north station square was completed.
On 1 March 1995 the Tokyo to Yokaichiba highway bus began, and it also stopped at the Yokaichiba station-front bus stop. On 1 April 2006 the Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed and a Moshimoshi ticket machine Kaeru-kun was installed. A north-south free passage opened on 1 September 2007. The south square was completed on 30 July 2008.
Suica became usable on 14 March 2009, when the station joined the Tokyo commuter area. Station work was outsourced in 2012. The Kaeru-kun machine stopped on 7 March 2012, and a reserved-seat ticket machine started on 8 March 2012.
