Yoshiwara Station (吉原駅) is in Fuji, Shizuoka Prefecture. Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) runs it on the Tōkaidō Main Line (Shizuoka section). The Gakunan Electric Train runs its Gakunan line here. It opened on 1 February 1889.
History
The station opened on 1 February 1889 as Suzukawa Station (鈴川駅) on the government railway, handling passengers and freight. On 26 June 1890 the Fuji Horse Tramway (富士馬車鉄道) began running to the station front. It was later transferred to the Nekata Tramway (根方軌道). On 1 April 1895 the government railway's line names were set, and the station became part of the Tōkaidō Line.
On 24 February 1899 the line between Numazu and Suzukawa was doubled, making the station a point where single and double track meet. On 5 November 1900 the line between Suzukawa and the Fuji-Kawa signal station was doubled. On 12 October 1909 the track names were revised, and the main line through the station was named the Tōkaidō Main Line. The Nekata Tramway line closed on 6 July 1924.
A private line for the Dai-Showa Paper (大昭和製紙) Suzukawa works, now the Nippon Paper Fuji plant, began running in June 1939. On 1 February 1949 the line between Numazu and Shizuoka was electrified, and the station yard was electrified with it. On 18 November 1949 the Gakunan Railway, now the Gakunan Electric Train, opened to Yoshiwara-Honmachi Station and began running into this station. On 10 April 1956 the station was renamed Yoshiwara Station.
A new station building was completed on 20 October 1970. Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office opened on 27 January 1987. On 1 April 1987, when the national railway was split up and privatised, the station became a station of JR Central and Japan Freight Railway Company (JR Freight).
Container freight handling began on 1 April 1994. TOICA IC card use began on 1 March 2008. In March 2009 a barrier-free multi-function toilet and an elevator at the south exit were added. On 26 February 2010 elevators to the north exit and the platforms were added. Freight train operations ended on 17 March 2012. On 1 June 2025 JR Central's stations, including this one, added customer support service and reserved-seat ticket machines with support, and the station became unmanned.
