Ajiro Station (あじろ駅) is a ground-level station in Atami, Shizuoka. East Japan Railway Company runs it. It is on the Itō Line. It opened on 30 March 1935.
History
Ajiro Station opened on 30 March 1935 as the terminus of the Itō Line. The Railway Ministry opened that line from Atami Station. On 15 December 1938 the line was extended from here to Itō. On 1 November 1943 the station came under the Railway Bureau of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. On 19 May 1945 that bureau was reorganised under the Transport Ministry. On 1 June 1949 the station passed to Japanese National Railways.
Freight handling ended on 10 January 1963. Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985. On 1 April 1987 the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East). From 1 April 1997 the station had set hours when no staff were on duty, as it moved to daytime staffing.
The Suica IC card became usable on 16 October 2004, and the station joined the Tokyo commuter area. On 1 October 2009 the whole station became smoke-free. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 7 March 2015. On 8 March 2015 the station became unstaffed, and a remote station-control system was introduced. It is now called the Customer Support Call System.
On 1 April 2017 a wheelchair-accessible lift was installed in the embankment passage, linking it to the platforms. On 16 March 2024 a timetable revision made all Odoriko trains pass the station without stopping.
