Amagasaki Station (尼崎駅) is in Amagasaki, Hyogo. West Japan Railway Company runs it. It opened on 1 June 1874 as Kanzaki Station on the government railway between Osaka and Nishinomiya.

History

The station opened on 1 June 1874 as Kanzaki Station on the government railway between Osaka and Nishinomiya. The Hankaku Railway opened its line from here to Tsukaguchi on 8 June 1898. The government took over the Hankaku Railway on 1 August 1907.

The station became part of the Tokaido Line on 1 April 1895. The line was renamed the Tokaido Main Line on 12 October 1909. On 1 March 1912 the Hankaku line south of Fukuchiyama was renamed the Fukuchiyama Line, and this station is on it. The station was renamed Amagasaki Station on 1 January 1949.

A freight branch to Amagasaki Ichiba opened on 1 October 1967 and closed on 1 October 1980. On 1 April 1987, when the national railways were split up, the station passed to JR West and JR Freight. The freight station closed on 1 April 2006.

On 17 January 1995 the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake halted service. Service between Osaka and here resumed on 18 January 1995. On 8 March 1997 the Tozai Line opened from here to Kyobashi, and the Shinkaisoku and Kaisoku trains on the Kobe Line began to stop here.

On 25 April 2005 a derailment happened on the Fukuchiyama Line at a curve between here and Tsukaguchi. Service between here and Takarazuka was halted. It was restored on 19 June 2005.

A new elevated station building and platforms 7 and 8 came into use on 25 November 2001. ICOCA could be used from 1 November 2003. Station numbering began on 17 March 2018. On 1 June 2025 the station came under the management of Takarazuka Station.
