Atsuta Station (熱田駅) is in Nagoya, Aichi. Central Japan Railway Company runs it. It opened on 1 March 1886 as a station on the government railway.

History

The station opened on 1 March 1886 on the government railway. On 1 April 1886 the line was extended to Biwajima (now Kiyosu), and the station became a stop along the way. The station became part of the Tokaido Line on 1 April 1895. It moved to its present site on 1 September 1896. Nagoya Electric Railway trams began running in front of the station on 3 May 1908.

A freight branch to Chikusa opened on 10 September 1918 and closed on 1 April 1930. An air raid burned the station building in 1945. The building was rebuilt on 22 June 1947.

A ticket counter called Midori no Madoguchi opened on 1 April 1967. Freight handling, apart from private sidings, ended on 16 January 1978. The present station building was completed on 7 October 1982. All freight handling ended on 10 January 1984. Parcel handling ended on 1 November 1986.

JR Central took over the station on 1 April 1987. From 11 March 1989 about half of the rapid trains passed through without stopping. From 10 March 1990 the remaining rapid trains also passed through, so only local trains stopped here. Automatic ticket gates came into use on 14 October 1995. TOICA could be used from 25 November 2006.
