Fujieda Station (藤枝駅) is a ground-level station with a station building over the tracks, in Fujieda, Shizuoka Prefecture. Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) runs it. It opened on 16 April 1889.
History
In April 1889 the government railway's Shimbashi Railway Bureau built a rail switch and an oil store here. Fujieda Station opened on 16 April 1889, when the government railway was extended between Shizuoka and Hamamatsu. At the time the site was in Aoshima village, in Shida District. On 1 April 1895 the station was placed under the Tōkaidō Line, later renamed the Tōkaidō Main Line. On 16 November 1913 the Fujisō Railway (藤相鉄道, later the Shizuoka Railway) opened a station called Fujieda-Shin (藤枝新) nearby. On 3 September 1914 its line from Fujieda-Shin to Ōigawa opened. In August 1919 Fujieda-Shin moved next to the national railway station, because transfers between the national railway and the Sunen Line (駿遠線) were inconvenient.
On 1 January 1956 Fujieda-Shin Station was renamed Shin-Fujieda Station. On 1 August 1970 Shin-Fujieda Station closed when the Sunen Line was abolished. On 20 July 1975 the station building was moved over the tracks.
On 19 March 1986 a Midori no Madoguchi ticket office opened. It was called the JR All-Lines Ticket Office (JR全線きっぷうりば). On 1 November 1986 freight and luggage handling ended. On 1 April 1987 the station became a station of JR Central. On 12 December 1992 automatic ticket gates were introduced.
On 21 April 2004 work began on a north-south passage, as part of a project to mark the city's anniversary, and a groundbreaking ceremony was held. On 2 August 2005 the north-south passage opened first. In September 2006 the rebuilt station building and the passage were completed. In December 2006 the renovated north exit came into use. In January 2007 the rebuilding work was completed. In 2007 the roof tiles of the oil store were replaced. On 1 March 2008 TOICA became usable.
