History
Ohadano Station (大秦野駅) opened on 1 April 1927 as a stop for the through service (直通). Local trains ran only between Shinjuku and Inada-Noboribe (now Mukaigaoka-Yuen), so they did not reach this station. On 15 October 1927, express service was set up, and the station became a stop. In November 1944, express service was suspended as the war situation worsened. In June 1945, all local trains began running the full line, and the station became a stop for them. The through service ended then. On 1 October 1946, a semi-express service was set up and stopped here. On 1 October 1949, express service was revived and stopped here.
On 25 March 1955, a commuter express service was set up and stopped here. On 25 March 1960, a commuter semi-express service was set up and stopped here. On 9 March 1987, the station was renamed Hadano Station (秦野駅). On 13 December 1996, the elevated station building and the north-south free passage were completed and opened. In 1997, the elevated station building was selected as a Good Design product by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (now the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry). On 22 August 1998, some Romancecar limited express trains began stopping here. On 14 October 1998, the station was chosen for the Kanto stations list. On 11 December 2004, rapid express and section semi-express services were set up, and the station became a stop for them. In March 2009, departure boards on the concourse and platforms were replaced with full-colour LED types.
On 17 March 2012, the Romancecar Asagiri, which runs through to Gotemba on the JR Gotemba Line, began stopping here. The section semi-express west of Hon-Atsugi was abolished, so those trains no longer stopped here. In January 2014, station numbering was introduced. On 17 March 2018, the semi-express west of Isehara was abolished, so those trains no longer stopped here. On 21 October 2022, a secondary station name, Nearest Station for Izumo Taisha Sagami Branch Shrine (出雲大社相模分祠 最寄駅), was set up. On 28 November 2025, a train approach melody began, using a song by the rock band LUNA SEA, which has ties to Hadano city.
