Higashi-Koganei Station (東小金井駅) is an elevated station in Koganei, Tokyo. East Japan Railway Company runs it. It serves the Chūō Line (Rapid). It opened on 10 September 1964 as a station of Japanese National Railways.
History
Japanese National Railways opened Higashi-Koganei Station on 10 September 1964. It was for passengers only, and it was paid for entirely by local residents. Freight handling started on 5 April 1965. Parcel handling ended on 2 October 1978. Freight handling ended on 1 December 1984. The station had been a base for car transport by freight wagon.
On 1 April 1987 the national railway was split up, and the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East). Automatic ticket gates started on 31 July 1992. Suica could be used from 18 November 2001. The down line was raised onto an elevated track on 1 July 2007, and the up line on 6 December 2009, which completed the elevated works.
On 27 January 2013 the nonowa Higashi-Koganei building opened, with the west ticket gate (nonowa gate). On 17 July 2013 an annex, HIGAKO marche, opened. On 1 February 2015 the station became unstaffed in the early morning. On 1 April 2015 station duties were contracted out to JR Chuo Line Mall Co. On 30 June 2018 the Midori no Madoguchi counter closed.
On 30 July 2021 the first phase of the renewal of nonowa Higashi-Koganei West opened. Smart platform doors are planned to start on some platforms on 9 August 2026.
