Musashi-Koganei Station (武蔵小金井駅) is an elevated station in Koganei, Tokyo. East Japan Railway Company runs it on the Chūō Line (Rapid). It opened on 4 April 1924 as a temporary stop for cherry blossom viewing.
History
The station opened on 4 April 1924 as a temporary stop of the government railway, for cherry blossom viewing at Koganei. On 15 January 1926 it became a full station, handling passengers only.
Japanese National Railways took over on 1 June 1949. The Musashi-Koganei electric train depot was completed on the site on 1 September 1959.
A Midori no Madoguchi ticket office opened on 10 July 1977. Parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. JR East took over on 1 April 1987. Automatic gates opened on 7 August 1994. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001.
In September 2002 the station moved to a temporary station building for the elevated works. Until those works ended, wheelchair users, older people and pregnant women could pass through without a ticket. The departure melody changed to Sakura Sakura on 1 April 2006. The down line became elevated on 1 July 2007, and the depot was renamed the Musashi-Koganei branch of the Toyoda Vehicle Centre on 25 November 2007. The up line became elevated on 6 December 2009.
A new platform for the up line was built on 20 May 2012. The commercial facility nonowa Musashi-Koganei opened under the elevated tracks on 19 February 2015, and nonowa WEST opened on 12 December 2015 with a gate for IC cards. The up-line melodies changed on 1 September 2020. The Midori window closed on 16 September 2022, and a talking reserved-seat machine was installed the next day. Smart platform doors started at some platforms on 25 May 2026.
