Hinatawada Station (日向和田駅) is a ground-level station in Ome, Tokyo. East Japan Railway Company runs it. It is on the JC Ōme Line. It opened on 28 December 1895.
History
The station opened on 28 December 1895 as a freight station. The Ome Railway (later the Ome Electric Railway) opened its line between Ome and this station on the same day. The first site was next to Wadano Shrine, near what is now Miyanohira Station. Passenger service began on 10 March 1898. On 1 April 1914 the station moved to its present site.
On 1 January 1920 the section between this station and Futamatao opened. On 1 April 1944 the Ome Electric Railway was taken into state ownership under a wartime rule for buying private railways. It became the Ome Line of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The old station site was returned to Hinatawada under the railway's contract. It became shared land for the town. A stone monument at Wadano Shrine records this.
Freight handling ended on 1 June 1957. Parcel handling ended on 1 February 1971. From 1 August 1972 the station was unstaffed all day.
On 1 April 1987 the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East) when the national railways were split up and privatised. The Suica IC card became usable on 8 February 2002. On 1 April 2003 the station was upgraded to a simple station with contracted staff. Departure melodies began on 1 November 2008.
In September 2009 the log-style station building closed while a new building was built. The new station building opened on 26 January 2010. In March 2010 stairs were added to link the station with Ome Kaido road. On 1 April 2016 the station became unstaffed all day again.
