Honda Station (誉田駅) is a station in Chiba city, Chiba, on the Sotobō Line, run by East Japan Railway Company. It opened on 20 January 1896 as Noda Station (野田駅).
History
The Boso Railway opened the station on 20 January 1896 as Noda Station, on the section between Sōga and Ōami. It was bought on 1 September 1907 and became an Imperial Railways Agency station. On 12 October 1909 it was assigned to the Bōsō Line. It was renamed Honda Station on 1 December 1914. On 1 April 1933 it became a station on the Bōsō East Line, between Chiba and Awa-Kamogawa.
Freight handling ended on 1 October 1962, and luggage handling ended on 1 March 1972. On 15 July 1972 the station became part of the Sotobō Line. Rapid trains began to stop here on 1 March 1978.
East Japan Railway Company took over the station on 1 April 1987. An automatic ticket gate opened on 4 November 1995. On 31 July 1996 the station toilets were made flush toilets, the last of the JR stations in Chiba city to change. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001.
An elevated station building opened on 23 March 2006. The north station square was completed on 5 April 2008. The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 31 March 2014. Station work was outsourced on 20 October 2015.
