Hon-Kawagoe Station (本川越駅) is a ground-level station with a station building over the tracks, in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture. Seibu Railway runs it. It opened on 21 March 1895 as Kawagoe Station on the Kawagoe Railway.
History
Kawagoe Station opened on 21 March 1895 on the Kawagoe Railway. It is the oldest of the stations in central Kawagoe. On 22 July 1940 it was renamed Hon-Kawagoe when the Kawagoe Line of the Railway Ministry opened. On 21 March 1953 the station moved to its current site.
Freight handling at a private siding ended on 1 April 1975. Station improvement work was completed on 15 March 1982. On 2 August 1990 the platforms changed from an earlier layout of several platforms to one island platform with two tracks. A station building opened on 5 September 1991. In 1998 the platforms were renovated to the current layout. In 2002 the ticket gate was changed to an open-counter style.
On 11 November 2006 a rapid express to Kokubunji ran to mark the station's anniversary. On 28 March 2007 the Emperor, the Empress, and the King and Queen of Sweden visited Kawagoe via this station, and an imperial special train ran. On 11 June 2009 the station kiosk reopened as TOMONY. On 20 October 2012 the secondary station names Toki no Kane and Kura no Machi were added. On 20 February 2016 the west exit opened with a new station roundabout, and the east exit was renamed the Kura no Machi exit.
On 13 January 2026 the station building Hon-Kawagoe PePe closed. On 14 January 2026 the second-floor ticket gate was closed.
