Hoshikawa Station (星川駅) is an elevated station in Hodogaya Ward, Yokohama. Sagami Railway runs it. It opened on 31 May 1927.
History
Hoshikawa Station opened on 31 May 1927 as Kita-Hodogaya Station (北程ヶ谷駅). It was a station of the Shinchu Railway (神中鉄道), the predecessor of Sagami Railway. At the time it was the Yokohama end of the line, linking here with Atsugi Station (厚木駅). It was renamed Hoshikawa Station on 1 April 1933.
A station building over the tracks was completed on 23 April 1969. On 15 December 1971 the Hoshikawa Works, next to the south side of the station, moved its work to Kashiwadai. The old site became a storage siding area and a conductor depot.
On 14 February 1993 an unexploded wartime bomb was found near Nishi-Yokohama Station. Trains between here and Yokohama Station stopped that day, and express trains made extra stops here. Rapid trains began on 27 February 1999 and stop here. From 23 August 2003 some storage sidings were taken out of use, and on 20 May 2006 all of them stopped, with their work moved to Nishi-Yokohama Station. On 3 November 2007 the up platform was moved to a temporary platform and widened during the elevation work.
The down platform moved onto the elevated structure on 5 March 2017, and the up platform on 24 November 2018. On 21 June 2020 the ticket gates were combined into a single set. From 27 March 2021 a north-south passage on the ground floor, and stairs, escalators and lifts outside the gates, came into use. On 12 March 2022 the storage sidings came back into use on the elevated structure. Storage sidings at Nishi-Yokohama also stayed in use, because more trains were needed for through services with Tokyu Railways (東急電鉄).
On 2 February 2023 the east exit passage opened. The first part of a facility under the elevated tracks, named 星天qlay, also opened. On 1 April 2023 a secondary station name, 'FB Furukawa Battery Head Office Mae' (FB古河電池 本社前), was introduced. Platform doors began operating on some platforms on 3 September 2023, and on the rest on 24 September 2023.
