Inae Station (稲枝駅) is a station in Hikone, Shiga Prefecture. West Japan Railway Company (JR West) runs it. It has a station building over the tracks. It opened on 1 July 1920 between Kawase and Notogawa stations.
History
The Railway Ministry opened Inae Station on 1 July 1920 on the Tōkaidō Line, between Kawase and Notogawa stations. It handled passengers and freight from the start. Freight handling ended on 1 February 1963. Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985.
On 1 April 1987 the national railway was split up, and the station became part of JR West. On 13 March 1988 the name Biwako Line came into use for the line. Automatic ticket gates started on 7 April 1998. ICOCA could be used from 1 November 2003. On 1 October 2006 a train operations control system for the JR Kyoto and Kobe lines was introduced.
On 18 March 2007 the station's automatic announcements were updated, and an electronic display board was installed. On 22 March 2007 an alliance to promote rebuilding Inae Station was set up, with the mayor of Hikone as its head. On 1 April 2013 Hikone and JR West signed an agreement on rebuilding the station. On 30 September 2014 the cherry trees in the front plaza, which had been planted when the station opened, were cut down for the rebuilding work. On 16 November 2014 the station moved to a temporary building.
On 12 March 2015 an approach melody was introduced, when the train-arrival warning sound was reviewed. The Midori no Madoguchi counter closed on 10 December 2016. On 11 December 2016 the elevated station building and east-west free passage opened, with a new west exit. A ticket machine named Midori no Kenbaiki Plus was installed. Station numbering was introduced on 17 March 2018.
