Itabashi Station (板橋駅) is an elevated station in Kita, Tokyo. East Japan Railway Company runs it and it serves the Saikyō Line. It opened on 1 March 1885.
History
Itabashi Station opened on 1 March 1885 as a station of the Nippon Railway, and freight handling began at the same time. On 1 November 1906 the railway was nationalised. On 12 October 1909 the station was assigned to the Yamanote Line. On 1 June 1949 the Japanese National Railways was formed.
On 15 July 1972 the station became part of the Akabane Line. Luggage handling ended on 14 March 1985. On 30 September 1985 the Saikyō Line began operating. On 1 April 1987 the station passed to East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and Japan Freight Railway Company (JR Freight). Freight train service ended on 16 March 1996. On 1 April 1999 the JR Freight station closed.
On 18 November 2001 Suica became usable. Barrier-free work in the station began in 2015. On 30 June 2016 the Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed. The barrier-free work was completed in 2017. In 2018 the station building was completed, and the station offices came into use.
On 6 August 2018 Nomura Real Estate was chosen as the joint developer of the Itabashi-guchi redevelopment project. On 24 February 2019 the east and west ticket gates were merged, and an east-west free passage opened. On 22 August 2019 the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of City Development approved the first-class urban redevelopment project for the Itabashi-guchi area. On 3 July 2020 the JR Itabashi East Building opened on the east side. On 1 October 2025 the Eki-net Q Ticket service started.
