Iwatsuki is a railway station in Tokyo.

Iwatsuki Station (岩槻駅) is in Saitama City, Saitama. Tobu Railway runs it on the Tobu Urban Park Line. It opened on 17 November 1929 as Iwatsuki-machi Station.

History

The station opened on 17 November 1929 as Iwatsuki-machi Station, when the Noda Line, run by the Kitasou Railway, opened between Kasukabe and a temporary Omiya station. The company was renamed Sosoku Railway on 22 November 1929. On 22 August 1938 the Bushu Railway, which crossed the line nearby, closed, and its Iwatsuki station closed too. The station was renamed Iwatsuki on 10 June 1939. Tobu Railway merged the Sosoku Railway on 1 March 1944, and Iwatsuki became a city on 1 July 1954.

Special express services called the Kirifuri and Ryuo ran from Omiya from 27 September 1969. The line was doubled between Nanasato and this station on 29 July 1969. The Kirifuri and Ryuo ended on 11 November 1972.

The line was doubled to Higashi-Iwatsuki on 25 November 1999. The city of Iwatsuki merged into Saitama City on 1 April 2005. A new departure melody was introduced on 1 April 2008. Station operations were outsourced to Tobu Station Service on 1 December 2009. The station received a line-and-station numbering code on 17 March 2011.

The ticket gates moved into a temporary station building on 29 June 2013. The platform was widened on 17 November 2013. An elevator came into use on 7 February 2015, and the first platform was extended toward Omiya on 29 May 2015. Express services started on 26 March 2016, and a west free passage opened on 24 May 2016. The bridge-type station building came into use on 31 May 2016.

An east side exit came into use on 8 February 2017. The station building was finished on 29 March 2017, with the west rotary and a tourist information office. The Urban Park Liner limited express began on 21 April 2017, stopping here only on departures from Asakusa. From 14 March 2020 Omiya departures stopped here too. A FamilyMart shop in the concourse reopened as an unmanned store on 12 October 2021.
