Kagohara Station (籠原駅) is a station in Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture. East Japan Railway Company runs it. It is on the Takasaki Line. It opened on 16 December 1909.
History
Kagohara Station opened on 16 December 1909. On 16 September 1968 another platform was added, along with up and down sub-lines. On 15 December 1969 the Kagohara electric train depot was set up. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1979, and freight trains were suspended on 1 July 1983. Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985.
A Midori no Madoguchi counter opened on 24 December 1986. The station became an elevated station on 1 March 1987. On 1 April 1987 the national railway was split up, and the station became part of JR East. On 1 December 1988 the depot was renamed the Kagohara Transport Section. Automatic ticket gates started on 28 November 1995. Suica could be used from 18 November 2001.
A timetable revision on 1 December 2001 made the station a limited express stop, and one up Akagi train stopped here. On 10 December 2005 the maintenance side of the depot became the Kagohara branch of the Takasaki Rolling Stock Center. On 7 March 2008 stairs on the Takasaki-side platforms opened. In December 2009 the station marked its centenary.
On 20 March 2011 the north station building, E'site Kagohara, opened. On 10 March 2016 the station became unstaffed in the early morning. On 15 March 2016 a fire caused by an electrical leak broke out in the station, and signal equipment was burnt. The Takasaki Line was suspended between Kumagaya and Okabe stations for several days. The north station square was completed on 18 March 2019. The Midori no Madoguchi counter closed on 15 February 2023, and a talking reserved-seat ticket machine was introduced on 16 February 2023.
