Kamakura is a railway station in Tokyo.

Kamakura Station (鎌倉駅) is in Kamakura, Kanagawa. JR East runs the Yokosuka Line here, and the Enoshima Electric Railway also has its own station on the site. It opened on 16 June 1889 when the government railway opened between Ofuna and Yokosuka.

History

The station opened on 16 June 1889 with two side platforms and two tracks. It became part of the Yokosuka Line on 12 October 1909. On 14 November 1910 the Enoshima Electric Railway opened its Komachi station on a street track nearby, and it was renamed Kamakura Station on 18 October 1915. On 23 November 1916 a new station building was completed, with one island platform and two tracks, a west exit and an underground passage.

The Enoden station moved to its present site on 1 March 1949. The national railways became the Japanese National Railways on 1 June 1949. Freight handling at the JNR station ended on 21 April 1962. An east-west underground passage opened on 9 December 1968.

The Enoshima Kamakura Kanko company was renamed Enoshima Electric Railway on 1 September 1981, and a second station building for the Enoden was completed that year. The JNR station building was rebuilt in its present form on 3 October 1984. Luggage handling ended on 14 March 1985. JR East took over the station on 1 April 1987.

JR automatic ticket gates opened on 5 November 1993. The station was named to the Kanto Station Hyakusen list in 2000. Suica could be used from 18 November 2001. The Shonan-Shinjuku Line started on 1 December 2001. The east-side station building Ekist Kamakura opened on 31 October 2007. It was renewed as CIAL Kamakura on 22 March 2016.
