Kameari Station (亀有駅) is in Katsushika, Tokyo. East Japan Railway Company (JR East) runs it on the Jōban Line (Local). It opened on 17 May 1897.
History
The station opened on 17 May 1897 as a station of the Nippon Railway. On 1 November 1906 the Nippon Railway was nationalised and became a government railway station. On 12 October 1909 the station became part of the Jōban Line. On 1 June 1949 the Japanese National Railways was formed.
On 1 October 1967, along with the four-track project, the private siding for the Hitachi Works and freight handling were abolished. On 20 April 1971 the section between Ayase and Abiko was made four-track. The local tracks were separated from the rapid tracks and became the stop for trains that run through to the Chiyoda Line of the Teito Rapid Transit Authority. Trains to Ueno ended.
Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985. On 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR East. A commercial facility directly connected to the station, Alcard Kameari, opened in November 1996 and was later renamed Beans Kameari. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. On 11 February 2006 a Kochikame statue (こち亀銅像) was placed at the north exit, and further statues, large and small, were added around the station in the following years.
The Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed on 22 January 2017. On 20 March 2018 station operations were contracted out. On 1 August 2018 departure melodies stopped, except on trains whose cars cannot broadcast from external speakers. On 16 March 2019 departure melodies stopped on all trains.
Beans Kameari was renewed on 1 November 2019. Smart home doors began operating on 9 February 2024. Eki-net Q ticket service began on 1 October 2025.
