Kiryu is a railway station in Tokyo.

Kiryū Station (桐生駅) is an elevated station in Kiryū, Gunma Prefecture. East Japan Railway Company runs it on the Ryōmō Line. Watarase Keikoku Railway also has services here. It opened on 15 November 1888.

History

The Ryōmō Railway opened the station on 15 November 1888. It was transferred to Nippon Railway on 1 January 1897, and nationalised on 1 November 1906. The Ashio Railway, now Watarase Keikoku Railway, opened on 15 April 1911. It was nationalised on 1 June 1918 and became the Ashio Line.

The second station building was completed in 1928. On 16 November 1934 an imperial train ran between Maebashi and Kiryū, and between Kiryū and Ashikaga, during Emperor Shōwa's tour of the prefecture. Japanese National Railways took over on 1 June 1949.

A south exit opened in August 1967. Freight handling ended on 2 October 1978. Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985. Part of the platforms was raised onto the elevated track on 7 October 1983, and the rest on 16 October 1985, when the current third station building was completed.

JR East took over on 1 April 1987. On 29 March 1989 the Ashio Line became the Watarase Keikoku Railway, making Kiryū a transfer station between the two. The Bi-u Plaza closed in October 1998. Automatic gates came into use in September 2000. Suica became usable on 18 November 2001. Elevators and escalators were added in March 2002.

The platform was raised on 27 February 2008. The tourist shop Watarase opened on 1 April 2009. The departure melody Yagibushi started on 15 June 2011. The shop Orai and a station piano were introduced on 1 April 2021. The Midori no Madoguchi closed on 31 October 2023, and a talking reserved-seat machine was installed on 1 November 2023.
