Kitamoto Station (北本駅) is in Kitamoto, Saitama. JR East runs it on the Takasaki Line. It opened on 1 August 1928 as Kitamotojuku Station (北本宿駅).
History
A signal station called Motojuku opened on 16 August 1918 at a spot near a road overpass, not at the present site. It became a signal yard on 1 April 1922. On 12 September 1923 a train carrying Great Kanto Earthquake victims derailed and overturned inside the signal yard. The yard became a station, Kitamotojuku, on 1 August 1928.
On 11 February 1943 Nakamaru village, where the station stands, merged with neighbouring Ishido village, and the new village took the name Kitamotojuku. On 20 March 1961 the station was renamed Kitamoto to match the town name. Freight handling ended on 1 October 1962. The elevated station building was completed in October 1977. Parcel handling ended on 14 March 1985. A Midori no Madoguchi counter opened on 28 December 1986.
JR East took over the station on 1 April 1987. Automatic ticket gates came into use on 16 March 1995. Suica could be used from 18 November 2001. A building on the west side of the station opened on 4 April 2002. The station became unstaffed in early mornings on 10 March 2016. Station work was outsourced from 1 September 2018. The Midori no Madoguchi counter closed on 15 December 2022.
