History
Konosu Station opened on 28 July 1883 as a station of the Nippon Railway. It was one of the stations open from the start of the Takasaki Line. The station building was rebuilt in 1936. On 28 March 1946 Emperor Showa visited Saitama on his postwar tour. A special train ran between Konosu and Kawaguchi.
In April 1979 plans to make the station a station building over the tracks drew opposition from a local group for people with disabilities, called 多角形. The group said the change would add more steps. Freight handling ended on 21 August 1980. In June 1982 the station building over the tracks was completed. Luggage handling ended on 14 March 1985. A Green Window ticket office opened on 17 March 1986. On 1 April 1987 the station passed to East Japan Railway Company (JR East), and a travel centre opened.
Automatic ticket gates opened on 26 January 1995. Suica could be used from 18 November 2001. On 26 March 2007 a lift came into use, and the toilets were replaced with a new type. On 22 October 2007 a new rotary opened on the east side. On 27 October 2007 the first phase of the redevelopment building Elmi Kōnosu was completed, and its shopping mall opened. In May 2008 the second phase was completed. On 10 March 2016 the station became unstaffed in the early morning.
