Komagome Station (駒込駅) is a ground station in Toshima, Tokyo. East Japan Railway Company and Tokyo Metro run it. It serves the Yamanote Line and the Namboku Line. It opened on 15 November 1910.
History
Komagome Station opened on 15 November 1910 as a Railway Agency station on the Yamanote Line. It carried passengers only. On 6 June 1917, the Tokyo City Tram Komagome Line and the Komagome-bashi stop opened. On 10 April 1922, the Komagome-bashi stop was moved a short distance toward Komagome Station. On 12 April 1923, the city tram Asukayama Line opened, and a Komagome sub-depot for the Sugamo tram depot was set up next to the station.
On 13 April 1945, an air raid during the Pacific War burned the station building. On 27 October 1957, the north station building was rebuilt. Since the war it had been a temporary shack-style building. A north-south free passage was also built at that time. On 17 March 1971, the city tram lines (Komagome Line and Asukayama Line) were abolished, and for a long period afterward there were no connecting lines.
On 1 April 1987, the national railway was split up and privatised, and the station became part of East Japan Railway Company (JR East). On 21 April 1990, automatic ticket gates were installed at the JR east exit. On 19 May 1990, they were installed at the north and south exits. On 29 November 1991, a Namboku Line station of the Teito Rapid Transit Authority opened, and at first it was a starting station. On 26 March 1996, the Yotsuya to Komagome section opened, and the Namboku Line station became a middle station.
In 2000, the JR station was chosen for a Kantō region station list, because of its azaleas in season. On 18 November 2001, Suica became usable on JR East. On 1 April 2004, the Teito Rapid Transit Authority was privatised, and the Namboku Line station passed to Tokyo Metro. On 23 December 2006, the JR station building renovation was completed. Escalators, elevators and in-station shops were added at the north and south exits. On 18 March 2007, PASMO became usable on Tokyo Metro.
On 14 December 2013, the Midori no Madoguchi ticket window closed. On 13 March 2015, the Namboku Line platform departure melody was changed. On 15 May 2017, the JR station was contracted out. On 1 October 2025, Eki-net Q Ticket service started on JR East.
