The station opened with the simultaneous opening of the section between the junction point, later known as Fukaya, and Baba Station, now known as Zeze Station, as a station on the government railway, and began handling passengers and freight, and is one of the six oldest stations on the extended opening section, including Nagaoka, Maibara, Hikone, Nodogawa, Yawata, and Kusatsu.
